A Facebook Like Portal For Your School Project But With Less Drama

It's been almost 5 years since I graduated from college and whenever I find awesome tech resources that I see helpful for students, I can't help but feel envious. There are a lot of awesome online and mobile applications ready available that would have made my student life easier, at least that is how I see it.

What is the greatest challenge of being a student? If you ask me, it would be project management.

TBT: High School Vs. College

During my High School days, making projects was easier since most of my classmates live in the same locality and we can just agree to meet up to do our project(s). Aside from that, all of you have the same schedule for classes and breaks so there is plenty of time to coordinate.

In college, unless you are enrolled in a block section, it is quite a challenge to meet up with everyone due to conflicting schedules and some people live very far.

Today, connecting and coordinating with your classmates is much easier thanks to the internet.

Project Management Software for Students

I'm a person who loves to explore techie stuff so I'm not sure if my suggestion would be agreeable to today's students. However, would it be nice if we can have a taste of real-world tools that people in the industries we hope to belong to in the future are using? IT, Computer Science, and engineering students in general can surely make use of project management software like Zoho Projects.

What is Zoho Projects?

Zoho Project Management is a free cloud-based project management and collaboration software. It allows you to keep track of your project tasks and milestones, bugs, documents, and helps you communicate effectively with your team.

How Students Can Use Zoho Projects Effectively

My favorite part of this online tool is the Feeds. It works similar to your Facebook Newsfeeds but instead of seeing what your friends had for dinner and other online drama, you get updates about your project.
Say for example you are still brainstorming for ideas, your project manager (team leader) can post a status update about it and the team members leave their reply. You can also tag someone in a status update. Yes, just like Facebook.

There is also a Forum feature that you can use so you can easily access your discussion threads. You can even send out announcements to your team members all at once.

If your school's network does not block your access to Zoho, there is also a chat feature you can use during computer lab time (but I don't recommend you do that).

When it comes to sharing documents, forget having to exchange flash drives as you can upload them to your Zoho projects portal for everyone to download. You won't have to worry about your USB flash drive getting corrupted or infected with virus plus you have a secured online backup of all your important files.

Additionally, Zoho automatically identifies which is the latest version of a document you uploaded so keeping track of your most recent file is a breeze.

Zoho Projects are integrated with Zoho Docs which allows you to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations via web browser and access them anywhere.

For the OCs, the calendar option is a great way to make sure you are making progress and everyone is doing their part by scheduling tasks, and project milestones. You can also input important school events and project presentation schedules with your instructions so you won't miss these dates.

If you are a student reading this post, let me know what you think of this application, whether or not this will be helpful for major school projects.
