Etsy Craft Party Cebu 2013 - The Start of Something Awesome

Last June 22, 2013 I attended the first ever Etsy Craft Party in Cebu. It was organized by Jilla of Marryl's Arts & Crafts and was held at Bos' Coffee Ayala Terraces branch. Etsy Craft Party is a one-day celebration of meeting and making worldwide. The global celebration was on June 20 but for us here in Cebu, we decided to hold it on a weekend since classes has just recently started.

I've always loved crafting ever since and this event was a great chance to meet other Cebuano craft enthusiasts at the same time an opportunity to share and learn some new crafts. Fellow bloggers Roxanne Tamayo and Kareen Satorre attended the said meet up.

The two hour event introduced us attendees to felt crafting. Jilla explained to us the types of felt cloth available and the many things you can do with it.

For our project, we made felt owl ornaments. I really enjoyed making my felt owl even though I was having a hard time sewing since I have such sweaty palms. I was really inspired that day to pursue again crafting as a hobby. I'm even thinking of making a separate blog for this to create awareness at the same time promote crafting in Cebu.

In line with this year's Etsy Craft Party theme "Craft for Community", we have a second project which is to make pencil toppers made also from felt and donate the finished products to Basadours Cebu, a group of volunteer ambassadors for reading and storytelling. However, since we do not have a lot of time, we decided to make them as our homework. We will meet up again soon to collect our outputs.

For those who are interested to try making their own felt ornament owls, you can download the pattern and instructions from Juicy Bits blog. You won't believe how easy it is to work with felt as it is very versatile. Also, pictures of the event can be found here and here.

Crafting is really fun. We hope you could join us next year. :)
