A Duo at Akita Japanese Restaurant

A Duo at Akita Japanese Restaurant

Akita Japanese Restaurant is located in City Time Square 2, Mantawe Ave. Tipolo, 6014 Mandaue City and they are open from Tuesdays to Sundays, 12:00 - 14:30 and 17:00 - 22:30.  I believe they used to have their location on F. Cabahug Street, Kasambagan, Cebu City near Sykes before they moved earlier this year. Sunnie Evergale and I found ourselves there for dinner as I've been curious to try them out for quite a while now.

This review, the title has the word duo because there are 2 X-geeks eating at a restaurant this time around.  Pictured is an oolong tea-based drink with soda water and Shōchū.  I failed to read the part about Shōchū being there and because I'm not too fond of alcoholic drinks, I was not able to finish the drink. hehehe

Here we have a bowl of Gyoza Ramen which generously had 5 pieces of wonderfully delicious gyoza.  The broth was very light and you could taste the umami permeating your palate as you either sip it or eat the noodles.  The gyoza also got added to the flavor since the broth permeated into the wrapper and filling of the dumplings.  I had to control myself because I just wanted to finish this dish in a few minutes but I managed to do so with some hearty conversation ranging fromwork to anime to movies among other topics.

Sunnie Evergale had the Shoyu ramen which basically has a soy sauce base with a clear, brown color.  The Naruto slice and slices of what I think are char siew pork look absolutely yummy.  As for the egg, it probably would have looked more interesting if it were a little less solid on the yolk side. :)

Whenever I go to a Japanese restaurant, I order chicken karaage if I have a chance.  Just thinking about karaage makes my mouth water. :)  This time though, the karaage was tasty but a little dry because they used chicken breast and they overcooked it ever so slightly.  My preferred chicken meat for karaage is thigh over breast. :)

Tempura, you can't go wrong with tempura if it's cooked right.  And does Akita Japanese Restaurant bring it.  The batter is light and not oily while the shrimp is perfectly cooked.  All in all, I believe this was another food coma-inducing food trip and as Sunnie would agree with me; we were too full to have anything else afterwards. XD

How Linkin Park Saved My Life

I still remember that fateful day 18 years ago. Holiday season, I was alone in a cinema downtown watching a not so particularly good movie; Dracula 2000. The dialogue was a bit silly and watching Gerard Butler do his take on the vampire was a bit cringe-worthy/cringey. As the movie ended and I started to stand, the first four notes a heavily distorted and drop-tuned guitar started to play over the credits. I sat back down and listened to the song as the malcontent lyrics of the raging vocalist blared out of the speakers like a flurry of lightsaber strikes. There was no post-credits scene, I stayed through the credits just to listen to a song that spoke to me.

Basking In the Awesomeness of Assassin’s Creed: Origins

Do you ever feel like you want to sneak up on people, assassinate, and then walk away feeling cool? Or you just want to go all out, guns blazing (well sword slashing), and revel in the guts of your enemies? Well, you can do both now with this new iteration of the Assassin’s Creed. Assassin’s Creed Origins has finally redeemed the franchise and by Osiris it feels good to be back. You want a reason to play it? Here’s my review.

Title: Assassin’s Creed: Origins
Initial Release Date: October 27, 2017
Series: Assassin’s Creed
Writers: Alain Mercieca
Developers: Ubisoft, Ubisoft Montreal
Gaming Platform: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

A Testament of Ubisoft’s Perfect Graphical Work

The first thing that you will notice with Assassin’s Creed Origins is its stunning visuals. The draw distance of this game is just awesome, even if I’m playing on the PlayStation 4 Slim. I saw the comparison vid for the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X and by Ra it’s so beautiful. The 3D models are carefully designed to synch with the dubs, even if it is just an in-game scene. The flora is almost realistic in design. The towns and big cities are well populated as well. It does not slow down even though the area is super populated with tons of AI characters.

So I have to say, the visuals of this game is a huge improvement compared to the previous titles. Sure, there are some bugs from time to time, but hey, at least it does not crash the game totally. I’m looking at your AC Unity.

Graphics: 9/10

Voice Dubs are Sublime

Another feature that the AC franchise totally nails is the voice dubs of their characters. I dunno about you guys, but I definitely like how their characters talk. They are all believable and totally in sync with the mouth animation and this time, AC Origins totally nails it. I like how they sound and for me, they sound like how ancient Egyptians would talk… well I’m no expert though lol. Anyways, they are all well matched with their voice actors, compared to one game with an English dub that I hate a bit *cough* XC2 *cough*

The music matches the theme of the game too, which is somewhat a double-edged blade for me. While it best describes what Ancient Egypt would sound and feel like, it tends to get a bit boring at some point of the game. You know, I feel a bit sleepy when I travel to a long destination without anything happening in between. The background sounds just makes me feel… zzzz… But if you do meet up with enemies, the game suddenly lights up. Really, I’m just looking for something that the devs need to improve, but it’s just a little.

Sounds and Voice Dubs: 7/10

Go Rambo or Total Assassin

The best part of Assassin’s Creed Origins is its feature to let their players choose whatever style they want. You want to be gung-ho and fight your enemies outright? Sure, go ahead. You want to sneak up on your enemies and just flee without anyone seeing? Sure, no one’s judging you. And the best part of the gameplay? NO MORE FORCED REQUIREMENTS!!! Yay Ubisoft! Congrats on having common sense this time around! I love most of your previous titles, but your friggin’ forced requirements to finish a mission are just ridiculous. This time around, you can do whatever you want. You can approach a mission site and use any method to finish it. Well, there’s not diplomacy option so that’s out, but hey, at least you can go melee or take out enemies one by one. Or poison them. Or make them berserk. Or lure an alligator/croc to the mission area.

There are tons of sidequests to choose from. You can go hunting if you like, well you know, for upgrades. Horse riding is back, but no more naval battles… well, not that of a main feature anyways. It’s part of the story, so just play AC 4 Blackflag if you want to play pirate. There are boss battles too, which are awesooooooooome! You fight gods, mummies of ancient Egyptian pharaohs, and more. It’s a brand new experience for me. So far, I’m having fun playing this game and I see no fault on the gameplay.

Gameplay: 9/10

Main Story is Kinda Short

Before you throw your insults on me, let me remind you that I’m talking about the main game without the rest of the DLC. Clear? Okay, here we go. So yeah, the main story is kinda short for me, but it is compelling and I feel for the main characters. The rest of the DLCs make a conclusion of the story though, which saves it from being short. The characters are relatable as well and you feel the despair of Bayek. This also gives you a lot of information about the beginnings of the Assassin group and their mission.

Story: 7/10

Walking Around Ancient Egypt w/o Fighting is Awesome

The best part of Assassin’s Creed Origins’ replayability feature is walking around the whole country without fighting anyone. You can just stroll around, watch how this marvelous civilization thrived, and view the beautiful landscapes. The whole trip is breathtaking and it’s a breath of fresh air compared to the previous titles. You can also go around rampaging if you want or finish other sidequests without any worries. The also has tons of DLCs to purchase if you want to expand your experience.

Replay Value: 8/10

Assassin’s Creed Origins is a must-play game if you are following the whole franchise. The whole thing is quite an experience and you will definitely have a great time. Just ignore the bugs, it’s not that bad.

Total Average: 8/10
