There are normal weekends in Cebu, and then there are weekends where you end up roaming around the same place again and again, not because you’re lost, but because you’re not done yet. Otakufest 2026 was that kind of weekend.
Held at SM Seaside Cebu last March 14 and 15, the whole place felt like it got turned into one big, slightly chaotic, very fun farming village. Not the quiet kind, more like the kind where every crop is ready at the same time and everyone is running around trying to enjoy everything at once.
You walk in and you already feel it. Cosplayers everywhere. Animal themed, farm inspired, and some that probably had nothing to do with farming but still somehow grew into the vibe. Some looked like fully upgraded builds, some looked like they just planted their first cosplay seed, but either way, everyone just fit into the same field.
Then comes the real challenge. Where do you even start planting your time?
Because one path pulls you straight into the competitions. Kara-OK, OC Design, Asian pop dance, cosplay skits, all happening like it’s peak harvest season. The crowd was loud, reactive, and honestly just fun to be around. You think you’ll just watch a bit, then suddenly you’re fully invested, cheering like you’ve been watering that performance since day one.
Go another way and now you’re in a different kind of farm, the competitive one. The on-the-spot Gunpla builders were locked in like they’re crafting their final masterpiece before sundown. Beyblade and Crush Gear matches felt like childhood rivalries finally being settled after years of “rematch next time.” Then the heavy hitters, Tekken, Street Fighter, 2XKO, Mobile Legends, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, all running like their own little battle fields. Even as a viewer, you feel like you’re part of the grind.
But what really balances everything out is the fun, low-pressure chaos.
The spicy ramen challenge? That was less farming, more survival mode. People were sweating like they’ve been working under the sun the whole day, but no one was backing out. You could almost hear their internal dialogue like “I planted this, I have to harvest it.”
Then you get the pet cosplay ramp and chibi cosplay ramp, which honestly felt like the reward after all the grinding. Cute, funny, but that’s what made it memorable. It’s the kind of thing that just makes the whole crowd soften a bit, like finally sitting down after a long day on the farm.
Somewhere in between, you’ll notice people gathering in lines, and yeah, that’s for the guests.
Lily Universe, Peachmilky, Poetxia, and Hippochi were around, and people really showed up for them. Hippochi, especially as the Otakufest mascot, just walked around like the official “guardian of the farm,” and honestly it worked. It made the whole theme feel more alive.
Then there’s the stage. You don’t even need to look for it, you’ll hear it first.
ASHA, NAMI, Natsuki, Playscape Vision, and Himawari kept things going the whole time. You pass by, thinking you’ll just check it out, then next thing you know you’re stuck there, enjoying the show like it’s part of your daily routine.
What really made it all click though is how the theme just naturally blended into everything. It wasn’t forced. It was in the jokes, the cosplays, the random comments you overhear. You’d hear people talking about “harvesting wins,” “feeding their competitive side,” or just calling the whole event a successful crop. It felt like everyone understood the assignment and just went with it.
And at some point, you realize you’ve been looping the same areas again and again. Going back to the competitions, rechecking the stage, spotting new cosplays, maybe buying something this time. It doesn’t feel repetitive, it just feels like you’re squeezing more out of the day.
And that’s probably the best part.
Otakufest 2026 didn’t feel like something you rush through. It felt like something you slowly enjoy, like tending to something and watching it grow as the day goes on. Whether you were competing, watching, meeting people, or just walking around, there was always something waiting for you.
By the end of it, you're tired, but it’s the good kind. The kind where you feel like your time was well spent, like you had a full harvest day and got more than what you expected.
Otakufest 2026 was loud, lively, a bit messy, but in the best way possible.
And if this is what the harvest looks like, then yeah, people are definitely coming back next season.
