Held on April 12, 2025, at Capu Coffee in Escario, Nerd Night 3.0 returned for another round of hobby-centered fun — all for a good cause. Organized by JCI Cebu, the event combined entertainment and charity into one ticketed gathering, where the proceeds went directly to their chosen charity. The ticket gave attendees full access to all games, and activities, and even included food, drinks, and beer for a chill night with fellow nerds.
This year’s Nerd Night once again brought together Cebu’s hobby communities and local partners, each one running their own booth or activity. Cebu X-Geeks had the pleasure of being invited back, continuing their role as a media partner for the event. Other collaborators included Fiddl, Play n Connect, Beyblade X Cebu, Legends Hobby Shop, and Cebu Sabersturm Academy — all of which brought their own flavor of geek culture to the table.
Cebu Sabersturm Academy took the lead on the VR and lightsaber side of things. They set up a Beat Saber VR booth, which gave attendees a chance to try their hand at the rhythm-based lightsaber game. They also held a mini lightsaber training session and even put on a quick duel between two of their Ace players, giving the crowd a peek into what their community does.
Play n Connect handled the Nintendo station, offering casual gameplay and hosting a Smash Bros. tournament that drew in both new and familiar faces. It was a good mix of laid-back gaming and friendly competition.
For the spinning top enthusiasts, Beyblade X Cebu hosted casual Beyblade matches and ran a short tournament. Both beginners and long-time fans got to let it rip in a space that welcomed all skill levels.
Legends Hobby Shop was also there to spotlight the local Magic: The Gathering (MTG) community. They held demo sessions for new players, taught basic gameplay, and encouraged everyone to try a casual game or two. It was a great way for first-timers to get into MTG without the pressure.
Meanwhile, Fiddl handled the board games section, featuring a selection of party and gateway games that were perfect for groups or walk-ins looking for something chill. From light strategy games to laugh-out-loud party titles, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Overall, the event successfully brought hobbyists together for a night of play, connection, and purpose. With strong support from the community and passionate organizers, Nerd Night 3.0 once again proved that geeky fun and giving back can go hand in hand.
