Smart Communications Philippines partners with Internet.org to bring the internet to more Filipinos.
Internet.org is a Facebook-led initiative that brings together technology leaders, nonprofits and local communities to make internet services more accessible especially to parts of the world that doesn’t have internet access.
Through this project, participants share tools, resources and best practices to explore solutions concerning these three major areas: affordability, efficiency and business models.
With the recent partnership, all Smart, Talk ‘N Text, and Sun Cellular subscribers can now access Internet enabled information and communication services such as Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Wikipedia, Dictionary.com, Wattpad, top PH news and job sites, Bing and many more at no additional data charges via WAP or through the Internet.org Android app.
As someone who tends to get curious every now and then, free access to such websites is such a luxury. This is a great milestone in Philippine history and kudos to Smart on taking up the challenge. Quality Android smartphones are getting cheaper so what a great timing!
Imagine all the awesome things you can do with Internet.org besides Facebook. Students don't have to go to internet cafe as much as they do for they now have free access to great educational resources. We can now easily get up to date with the day's news and weather information cutting cost on newspaper subscription!
I hope more Filipinos will be empowered through internet and stop thinking of it for its entertainment purpose. Share the good news to everyone!
