#forEveryFilipinoFighter: The Best Thing That Happened During Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight

Last May 3, 2015, together with some of the top bloggers from Cebu and Manila, Pru Life UK brought the live coverage of the Pacquiao versus Mayweather fight to the residents of Bantayan Island Cebu as well as to 9 other communities in the Philippines especially those municipalities and cities which were greatly affected by typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) as a tribute to every Filipino who continue to fight despite of all the challenges they have to face daily.

In a press interview, Antonio Manuel de Rosas, current President and CEO of Pru Life UK said, “As the country prepares for the ‘Fight of the Century’, we want to lift the spirits of those fighting to recover from typhoon Yolanda. We are excited about the fight, but more than that, we are inspired by every Filipino fighter from all walks of life. We saw the opportunity to bring the fight to those who do not have access to it, and we are overjoyed to be able to connect them to the rest of the world as we cheer on the ‘People’s Champ’”.

“Seeing the Cebuanos in Bantayan Island get back on their feet has been a truly a remarkable experience for our staff and volunteers. Helping them rebuild their homes is just the first step. We hope that watching this fight live gives them the opportunity to set aside their daily struggles as they join in this national celebration.”

We all know how the “fight of the century” turned out. It may not be one of the Philippines’ glorious moment in boxing history, but still, beautiful things happened that day.

We were reminded on how it feels to look forward to something

When something as earth-shattering as Yolanda happens to your life, you might come to a point when you just wait for life to pass by. Everybody copes up differently and some of the people in Bantayan may still wake up in the morning with a big sigh on how their life has turned around overnight. The live viewing of the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight reminded us of the joy of looking forward to something exciting.

Smiling faces everywhere. All are excited to watch the fight live on the big screen.

The entrepreneurial spirit is still strong

Family and friends gathered together, again

When was the last time you bonded with your family or friends? For most of us, it maybe a common scene but for some people, it is a luxury. So glad to know that some of the residents of Sta. Fe, Madridejos, and Bantayan were able to have some time off from fishing, spend time with their family and reconnect with old friends.

Together we cheered, laughed, and cried. We are united.

And together we will continue to fight, pick ourselves up, because the Filipino spirit never gives up!

Years may have passed since we experienced the wrath of Yolanda, but in some areas in the country, the traces of one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever recorded are still evident. It’s comforting to know that there are still organizations such as Pru Life UK through its charitable arm the Prudence Foundation, among others, who are continuing their long-term commitment in helping the affected communities get back on their feet in both rebuilding their shelters, livelihood, and even their morale.
