Uncovering the Facebook Giraffe Challenge / Giraffe Riddle

I caught a bug and spend the whole morning on my bed. When I finally gathered enough strength to stand up and leave my bed, I went to check my email and Facebook feed.

I got confused. Everyone on my Facebook feed appears to have turned into a giraffe. Has the great giraffe invasion already started and no one dared to tell me?

Welcome to the internet!

A new status or riddle specifically has been circulating on Facebook. You have to answer the so called giraffe riddle and if you get it wrong, as a punishment you have to change your profile pic into a giraffe for the next three days.

"I've changed my profile to a giraffe. I tried to answer a riddle and got it wrong. Try the great giraffe challenge!

The deal is I give you a riddle. You get it right, you get to keep your profile pic. You get it wrong and you change your profile pic to a Giraffe for the next 3 days. MESSAGE ME ONLY SO YOU DON'T GIVE OUT THE ANSWER.

Here is the riddle: 3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors, It's your parents and they are there for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open?

Remember... Message me only. If you get it right, I'll post your name here. If you get it wrong change your profile pic."

My first thought was correct but I gave out the wrong answer so I had to change my profile pic. Well, in a world full of giraffes, you must find a way to fit in. LOL.

This was in my opinion a good breather from the usual drama on this social networking site. The funny thing is some people thought of the "phenomena" as due to a virus and there appear to be an endless debate on what really is the correct answer.

The truth behind the Giraffe Challenge

So a lot of you who have played the game might be having a lot of fun right now. Did you ever wonder who started this viral riddle? There is a story behind the Great Giraffe Challenge on Facebook that everyone should know about.

The riddle challenge was created to raise awareness for Millie's Trust, a charity organization created in memory of Millie Thompson the baby who died after a choking incident at Cheadle Hulme nursery. The charity aims in "The advancement of health and saving of lives by providing education and training in First Aid". Learn more about Millie's Trust.

What's with the giraffe?

Millie the Giraffe was born on the 25th of March 2013 at the Chester Zoo and was named after baby Millie. Millie's Trust is hoping to raise some money for Chester Zoo in the coming months to help support Millie the Giraffe and help support her upbringing.

I did some research and found out that Chester Zoo have an animal adoption program in order to fund the needs of the shelter. Maybe, baby Millie's parents adopted a giraffe, maybe they are plain animal lovers so they included the zoo in their advocacy campaigns, or perhaps it was a coincidence that this rare giraffe was also named Millie. Regardless, I hope you also share the real story behind the giraffe riddle to help Millie's Trust.
