A Duo at Akita Japanese Restaurant

A Duo at Akita Japanese Restaurant

Akita Japanese Restaurant is located in City Time Square 2, Mantawe Ave. Tipolo, 6014 Mandaue City and they are open from Tuesdays to Sundays, 12:00 - 14:30 and 17:00 - 22:30. I believe they used to have their location on F. Cabahug Street, Kasambagan, Cebu City near Sykes before they moved earlier this year. Sunnie Evergale and I found ourselves there for dinner as I've been curious to try them out for quite a while now.

This review, the title has the word duo because there are 2 X-geeks eating at a restaurant this time around. Pictured is an oolong tea-based drink with soda water and Shōchū. I failed to read the part about Shōchū being there and because I'm not too fond of alcoholic drinks, I was not able to finish the drink. hehehe

Here we have a bowl of Gyoza Ramen which generously had 5 pieces of wonderfully delicious gyoza. The broth was very light and you could taste the umami permeating your palate as you either sip it or eat the noodles. The gyoza also got added to the flavor since the broth permeated into the wrapper and filling of the dumplings. I had to control myself because I just wanted to finish this dish in a few minutes but I managed to do so with some hearty conversation ranging fromwork to anime to movies among other topics.

Sunnie Evergale had the Shoyu ramen which basically has a soy sauce base with a clear, brown color. The Naruto slice and slices of what I think are char siew pork look absolutely yummy. As for the egg, it probably would have looked more interesting if it were a little less solid on the yolk side. :)

Whenever I go to a Japanese restaurant, I order chicken karaage if I have a chance. Just thinking about karaage makes my mouth water. :) This time though, the karaage was tasty but a little dry because they used chicken breast and they overcooked it ever so slightly. My preferred chicken meat for karaage is thigh over breast. :)

Tempura, you can't go wrong with tempura if it's cooked right. And does Akita Japanese Restaurant bring it. The batter is light and not oily while the shrimp is perfectly cooked. All in all, I believe this was another food coma-inducing food trip and as Sunnie would agree with me; we were too full to have anything else afterwards. XD
